2022 was quite a year for scientific advancement but a continued stalemate against disintegrating bipartisan politics, misinformation and the pandemic.
Still there are few articles I will probably not present tonight but I hope you read.
The first is the amazing article from December in the New York Times on the state of the Russian army, both in Russia and in the fight in the Ukraine. A dismal picture of incompetence and corruption leading to the death of many Russian soldiers and a continued disaster in the Ukraine. It is a long piece but one well worth getting through. NYT Russian Army Piece. Made me appreciate the benefit , though eroding, of an open society in the Soros sense.
The second is not really one article although I will reference a YouTube video (ChatGPT) . There are so many articles on this piece you just need to go out and take your pick. In short it is probably the biggest disruptions the technology front since the Internet (perhaps rivaled by the hidden impact ransomeware campaigns). It is a new form of natural language processing that enables the user to ask complex questions to the computer and get back expert human level answers. The disruption this will cause in the tech and creative world cannot be overstated. Please listen to the above YouTube if this has somehow passed you by and go from there. For more detail look here on YouTube Coldfusion Channel - but be sure you are sitting down. The graphic creator form OpenAI can be found here: Dall-E.
The last item again is not really an article but just a cascade of information and revelations that have come from the latest space telescope - so called James Web Space Telescope (JWST). And see the firsts gallery too! The first JWST Deep Field is the photo above. It is taken form a portion of the sky the size of grain of sand.
Check out the Noahpinion piece on the third magic as he discusses the advent of the age of AI
see you tonight
